A quick look at Gary Levin and one might think rocker or dog lover, but take a moment to talk to him and you'll quickly hear about his one-man crusade to clean up and improve Hollywood.

Gary Levin, an avid volunteer for the Los Angeles Chapter of The Way to Happiness Foundation (a charity, focused on promoting and increasing social responsibility), has been personally campaigning to clean up trash, human waste, drug paraphernalia and make his neighborhood near Sunset and Gower safe.

"The area was filthy and insecure for all of us as local residents, and it was just a matter of time until a child would step on one of the big syringes lying around."

“The area was filthy and insecure for all of us as local residents, and it was just a matter of time until a child would step on one of the big syringes lying around," said Gary.

What makes Gary different is this was not just a one-time clean-up but a two-year campaign to handle one of the filthiest areas in Hollywood. Gary was applying "Safeguard and Improve Your Environment" -- point 12 of the The Way to Happiness, the keynote education booklet of The Way to Happiness Foundation.

Working directly with AT&T (a property owner in the area) and LAPD officers from Northeast Division, the area was eventually cleaned up for good. Grateful for his work, LAPD helped to get a special recognition from the City of LA for his efforts.

Now Gary is taking his crusade across Hollywood, recently briefing the East Hollywood Business Improvement District exactly how others can do the same.
