The Say No to Drugs Association of Belgium set up a drug information stand at Festival Ezperando to help youth steer clear of drug abuse and addiction.
Bornem, Belgium, May 24, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Young people stood in line at the Say No to Drugs Association booth at Festival Ezperando in the town of Bornem in northern Belgium. Here was an opportunity to "experiment without risk." The volunteers brought special sets of glasses specifically designed to simulate the kind of disorientation experienced under the influence of psychoactive substances (including alcohol and cannabis).
The volunteers arranged a set of orange cones and the youngsters tried to walk through them while wearing the glasses. Those making the attempt and the onlookers all agreed it was great fun. But the glasses caused no "side effects" or long-term problems. Not so drugs.
"Many of the parents we spoke to were very interested in learning more about drugs and appreciated the quality of our materials. They were happy to get copies of the booklets and DVDs and felt by studying the information and sharing it with their children they would be better equipped to help them.

The Say No to Drugs Association is an initiative of the Churches of Scientology in Belgium. They use the Truth About Drugs materials of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World. Supported by the Church of Scientology, the Foundation produces booklets and videos containing factual information on drugs and what they do. And it makes these materials available to educators, parents, mentors, community and civic leaders and anyone wishing to help youth make the self-determined decision to live drug-free.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, "For every dollar spent on prevention, at least ten can be saved in future health, social and crime costs."
